IMac, running Catalina, I assume V1 of Affinity, but it crashes when I launch so I can't verify.

I found solutions for Photo crashing in Sonoma or whatever:

But I have Catalina, not Sonoma, and when I tried to fix it anyway using the instructions in Terminal, well, I got this: "-bash: efaults: command not found"

And then I tried to delete some seriflabs file in Library/Preferences as instructed, and no such file exists. So how do I get Photo to launch? Thanks...

Welcome to the forums @MikeGebert,

It's unlikely that your app crash problem will be related to the light mode UI problem as that is specific to Sonoma so I wouldn't recommend following the FAQ guidance if you're running Catalina. If you to go the Applications folder in Finder your app version should be easily identifiable as the V2 apps by default will be listed with a '2' on the end, so 'Affinity Photo 2' or example, while the V1 apps will only be listed as 'Affinity Photo' with no version number after the app name.

If you could initially provide us with some crash reports that would be great, the FAQs below detail how to find these.

Many thanks

FWIW, I run Catalina on my iMac & none of the nine Affinity apps installed on it (V1, V2, nor V2 betas) crash on launch.
