Since upgrading today (21/10/2023) to Affinity Designer 2.2.1 I keep getting this message, even with newly created files.  This happens if I try to open the file in Affinity Designer 2.2.1 and if I try to open the files in Explorer using the Open option or double cicking.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

I haven't seen that, but I haven't tried having Template files in OneDrive yet. I'll check that later.

Does it happen if the file is not in OneDrive? Is the file actually on your machine when the failure happens, or is it only in the Cloud?

When you open an Affinity file a hidden lock file will be created to prevent the file from being opened by another user at the same time but this should timeout 5 minutes after the file is closed, can you please enable hidden files in your folder options and see if there is a file called the following and if so please delete this file
