Possible to import from Mac Photos app in HEIC format?

Recommended Posts

If I shoot a Photo on my iPhone in HEIC format, after that photo is synced to my Mac, I can open it directly from Affinity Photo in the Media section of the Open File dialog, but it imports as JPEG instead of HEIC.  If I instead use the Place option to import the photo directly from the Media portion of the dialog, it comes in as TIFF.  But if I export from Photos as HEIC, I can open the resulting HEIC image fine.

I don't know if this is an Apple thing or an Affinity thing, but is there a way to directly import the original HEIC image file?

Thx

Apple Photo restricts the resolution and formats, mostly downgrades them when using drag and drop to other apps, or any of the "open in" functions. This is a Apple thing.

To get full resolution on original formats, you may need to use "export" first.

My posts focus on technical aspects and leave out most of social grease like „maybe“, „in my opinion“, „I might be wrong“ etc. just add copy/paste all these softeners from this signature to make reading more comfortable for you. Otherwise I’m a fine person which respects you and everyone and wants to be respected.
