Affinity Publisher: Working with books... one crack after another

Recommended Posts

I’m working on a 500-page book with Affinity Publisher. Before the books were incorporated, the entire document was stored in a single file.
With the new tool I have divided the book into about 20 chapters, but under the most diverse circumstances, the program stays frozen for a few seconds and closes the application without showing any error message. When I reopen the book, no errors are reported.
The problem is that the automatic closures of the program are continuous and there is no specific circumstance that causes them, but it is almost impossible to work in this way.
Fortunately I am still working with the entire document in a single file, but I think this feature has many problems.

I don't have a solution to offer but until this is solved, one way to avoid the crashes is to open the chapter files directly while the Book is closed. Only open the Book when you're not editing the chapter files.

You shouldn't have to do this but this approach avoids losing your data.

Good luck.

@Ballshamin After Publisher has closed during your workflow. Can you check to see if any crash reports has been made by following the steps in this FAQ. If they have, please upload them for checking.

It may also be worth checking the Windows Event Viewer for when it occurred to see if this shows anything.

I'd also use @MikeTO suggestion as a workaround, as well as creating backups of your files.

Dear sirs...
This morning I tried to sync the styles from the reference chapter to all the other chapters (about 20) and I lost count of the number of times the application just ended —at least it closed 7 times—. I have been doing the synchronization chapter by chapter.
Only one file has been generated in the reports directory —which I attach— and three annotations have been made in the Windows event viewer.
