Still no update on why AF 2.1 cannot import raw files directly from Apple photos on iPad prod M1

Recommended Posts

Could someone at affinity please send an update on why the ability to open a raw file from Apple photos app on iPad M1 Pro no longer works in v2.1?  It worked in the previous version so surely it’s not too difficult to compare the coding.

You need to state which camera model and maybe upload some sample raw files for others to test, I have ZERO problems opening RAW images, CR2, CR2, RAW, DNG, RAF, ORF ARW, NEF using the IOS Shortcut method from Apple Photos. There is a problem if you use JPG+RAW images, simply solution, shoot raw OR jpg but not both.

@Paul Mudditt while I appreciate your reiteration of your shortcut method Paul.  I find it only distracts from my objective which is to find out the following:

1. Why has the original functionality disappeared?

2. When will it return?

I did not buy a new product but a supposed upgrade. While I understand that all software releases may contain a percentage of bugs/errors they re normally new not the ruination of previous functionality.  A thorough UAT programme would have identified these pre launch along with a continuity matrix to determine existing functionality would work in the new code.

I like many others have a certain workflow that worked on previous versions of affinity photo.  I work with a portable Apple ecosystem from camera to iPad rarely MacBook.  I find this seemingly unimportant to serif flaw unbearable it is causing me to use much more storage as I am doubling up and taking much more time.

Let’s re plaster the wall and not paper over the cracks and say it is a great job when it clearly is not.

I am working around the cracks, I have stated previously the Raw Power app appears to have no problem choosing the reverted file to get around the automatic IOS type conversion but since the designer previously worked for Apple I guess he knows the secrets.

New photo access methods appeared in iPadOS17 beta today for the Affinity app betas, hopefully these will eventually help to avoid the automatic type conversion which happens with iOS, iPadOS which are part of the cause of the problem (automatic conversion to most compatible jpg format)

Probably because 2.1 completely changed the way that the Affinity apps access Photos on iPad. They switched from using their own browser to using the standard browser provided by Photos, and now they may be limited to what Photos wants to show them.

Strangely enough V2.1 so far works fine using the new interface on iPadOS17.0 public beta so I think it must be some new 'rights' management issue with the beta apps which also struggle on macOS 14.0 public beta as well.
