Hi there, I tried Publisher as a good alternative to Indesign and I found it very useful. But, the software (2.1.0) crashes all the time. It is the buggiest software I've ever seen. No matter what you do: Move elements, crash. Edit text, crash. Create assets, crash. It drives me crazy.

Dont get me wrong, the function of the software seems to be great but with that kind of stability issues I can't work with.

As I see here in the forum, there seems to be a lot of stability issues with 2.1.0. What can I do?

Best regards,
Jax

Hi @Jax355 and welcome to the forums. Have you tried turning off metal? Go to Affinity Publisher 2 > Settings > Performance and uncheck Hardware Acceleration > Enable Metal Compute Acceleration. Then click Close and restart Publisher. After it restarts, go back to that same screen and change Display from Metal to OpenGL. That should probably solve most of your issues.

Cheers

Hi Mike,

I had already tried different performance settings and it was still the same.

Now, I tried the exact way you mentioned. First disable hardware acceleration, select metal, restart and then back to OpenGL. It seems that help. No issues the last half an hour. Thank you for that!

Cheers,
Jax

If you're unable to launch Affinity, try restarting your Mac. If that doesn't solve it, then try starting the app while holding down the Ctrl key (you actually have to press and hold Ctrl just after clicking the app icon or else a context menu will appear). When you launch it with Ctrl, Affinity will ask if you want to delete your user defaults. Just leave everything as is and click the Clear button. Hopefully that will solve the issue for you.

Hi there,

while I'm very happy with the workaround from @MikeTO yesterday, unfortunately the crashes continue today and nothing really helped.

Sadly the programm is total useless for me at the moment.

Hi @Pauls,

it happens on various actions like insert an asset, formatting text, do some drag and drop and so on. Unfortunately I can't you provide the file public. Do you have an email so I can send it to you?

Cheers

I've managed to recreate the crash changing the case of the running header field but I cant recreate the other crashes. Would it be possible to get the crash report (from the console app) when those occur ?

The issue "Running header field - changing case causes crash" (REF: AFB-7809) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.2.0.1881".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us.
