Jax355 Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 (edited) Hi there, I tried Publisher as a good alternative to Indesign and I found it very useful. But, the software (2.1.0) crashes all the time. It is the buggiest software I've ever seen. No matter what you do: Move elements, crash. Edit text, crash. Create assets, crash. It drives me crazy. Dont get me wrong, the function of the software seems to be great but with that kind of stability issues I can't work with. As I see here in the forum, there seems to be a lot of stability issues with 2.1.0. What can I do? Best regards, Jax Crash report.txt Edited June 12, 2023 by Jax355 Add crash report Quote
MikeTO Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 Hi @Jax355 and welcome to the forums. Have you tried turning off metal? Go to Affinity Publisher 2 > Settings > Performance and uncheck Hardware Acceleration > Enable Metal Compute Acceleration. Then click Close and restart Publisher. After it restarts, go back to that same screen and change Display from Metal to OpenGL. That should probably solve most of your issues. Jax355 Posted June 12, 2023 Author Posted June 12, 2023 Hi Mike, I had already tried different performance settings and it was still the same. Now, I tried the exact way you mentioned. First disable hardware acceleration, select metal, restart and then back to OpenGL. It seems that help. No issues the last half an hour. Thank you for that! Cheers, Jax MikeTO 1 Quote

If you're unable to launch Affinity, try restarting your Mac. If that doesn't solve it, then try starting the app while holding down the Ctrl key (you actually have to press and hold Ctrl just after clicking the app icon or else a context menu will appear). When you launch it with Ctrl, Affinity will ask if you want to delete your user defaults. Just leave everything as is and click the Clear button. Hopefully that will solve the issue for you. Jax355 Posted June 13, 2023 Author Posted June 13, 2023 Hi there, while I'm very happy with the workaround from @MikeTO yesterday, unfortunately the crashes continue today and nothing really helped. Sadly the programm is total useless for me at the moment. Quote
Staff Pauls Posted June 13, 2023 Staff Posted June 13, 2023 Could you supply us with a file that is in use when the app is crashing and some actions that cause the app to crash please Quote
Jax355 Posted June 15, 2023 Author Posted June 15, 2023 Hi @Pauls, it happens on various actions like insert an asset, formatting text, do some drag and drop and so on. Unfortunately I can't you provide the file public. Do you have an email so I can send it to you? Cheers Jan Quote
Staff Pauls Posted June 15, 2023 Staff Posted June 15, 2023 Certainly please use this link to upload the file Quote
Jax355 Posted June 15, 2023 Author Posted June 15, 2023 @Pauls thanks a lot. I uploaded the file and a and a short screen record, so you can see the behavior. Pauls 1 Quote
Staff Pauls Posted June 15, 2023 Staff Posted June 15, 2023 I've managed to recreate the crash changing the case of the running header field but I cant recreate the other crashes. Would it be possible to get the crash report (from the console app) when those occur ? Quote
Jax355 Posted June 19, 2023 Author Posted June 19, 2023 Hi @Pauls, please find the logs (crash report and console log) attached. This recent crash happend while I'm insert an asset (picture frame). Cheers Jan crashlog.txt console_log.txt Pauls 1 Quote
Staff Pauls Posted June 19, 2023 Staff Posted June 19, 2023 Looks like a very similar issue - have you got running headers grouped with shaped objects, frames ? Quote
Jax355 Posted June 21, 2023 Author Posted June 21, 2023 Hi @Pauls, exactly there is a grouped running header with shaped object. Pauls 1 Quote
