Affinity Publisher v2- Freezes when selecting the color copy Icon

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure which icon you mean by the "color copy icon", @chasventre. Can you clarify that, perhaps with a screenshot and/or screen recording?

Also, do you mean that the application freezes/crashes? If the system actually freezes/crashes that's almost certainly not an Affinity problem.

Hi @chasventre,

I have a few follow up queries below:

  • Which Colour picker are you using, the one within the 'Colour' panel or the Colour picker tool found in the tools panel? Does it make a difference if you use the other one?
  • Is this file specific or does the same app hang occur in an empty or a different document?
  • Does turning off Hardware Acceleration (Found under Edit > Preferences > Performance) and then closing the interface and restarting the app have any impact?
  • Could you send a screenshot of your App Performance Preferences?

Many thanks in advance

Hi @chasventre,

Thanks for following up, could you confirm if the same issue occurs if you change the 'Renderer' to 'WARP' and then restart the app and try again? This will force the Software/CPU to do the in app rendering, which can drastically reduce performance but help confirm what's causing the problem.

It's not typically feasible to keep the renderer on warp even if it does work due to the poor performance, Could you also try updating your integrated graphics driver to the latest version and then rebooting your PC, after this set the app 'Renderer' back to Default/Intel iris, restart the app and then try again on a new document?

Thanks for checking, just to be sure that there is no fault on the driver side could you possibly do a clean installation of your graphics driver? Instructions below on this.

If this still doesn't work, to confirm if this is app related, could you try the below to factory reset the app to it's default settings? (Note: This will reset any custom brushes, assets etc. so these will need to be re-downloaded/imported):

  1. Close all Affinity Apps
  2. Hold down CTRL and open Designer Whilst still holding CTRL
  3. This will prompt a 'Clear user data' menu, tick all boxes excluding the 'De-activate' box at the bottom and press 'Clear'
  4. The app will now launch, try using the colour picker again.

Many thanks
