Someone please tell me why the overlay paint tool in the develop persona won't work on the top third of my photo. (i.e. If I try to select a portion of the photo in the top third it won't select. If I run the overlay paint tool from the top to the bottom of the page, only the bottom 2/3 of the page will have a selection.) This has happened with several different photos. I am frustrated to tears needing to use this tool for a specific job. It used to work but now it doesn't. I can't imagine what has changed.

I have found that if I rotate the picture so that it is no longer portrait but landscape it will allow me to use all the tools in the develop persona. But this did not start till recently. Please tell me if there is some crazy setting that needs to be changed to allow me to use the develop persona without having to first rotate the item to landscape.

Do you have the Edge Aware option ticked on the Context Toolbar? It's to the right of the Size and Hardness settings.

Do you get the same issue if you start a new document, add a blank Pixel layer and use the Overlay Paint Tool in the Develop Persona?

I have tried the edge aware and it does happen even when I close and reopen affinity with a new and different photo. Not sure about the blank pixel layer. There has got to be something that is turned on that needs turning off, I just can't find it. This all started when I wanted to work on an old photo that needed to be rotated, but now it happens on all photos.

I've not been able to replicate this at all. Does the Overlay Gradient Tool work on the top section of the image? You could try resetting the app back to its default settings by holding down the CTRL key while launching the app.

I did find a reason for this issue but not quite sure what order Affinty wants me to do things in. This only happens when a picture that was taken portrait but it loads landscape. When I import the file and then try to rotate it to portrait as i intended to take the picture... Then it won't let me work outside of the orginal boundries of the picture. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but that is the steps I took that caused the problem.

In that case, you just need to discard the metadata which causes it to be rotated when you open it. Either copy the rotated image and then choose 'File > New From Clipboard' or export it without the metadata and then import the new version.
