Hi, I am unable to save my documents to my cloud storage.  I use Sync and get the message 'The operation can't be completed' and in brackets there is a sentence that begins with 'Cocoa error'.

I have tried also to save the files to Google Drive and get the error 'You need to authenticate before accessing this item'

Both of these errors are attached as a screenshot.

I have rebooted all the apps mentioned and then rebooted the ipad (ipad pro OS 16.4.1) but to no avail.

I am able to save files to the ipad local storage and am also able to save to icloud drive.

Any ideas what could be causing this issue?

Thanks

Can you please check that the Google drive has full permissions on the iPad and can you also please check that the Google drive app is fully updated.

Hi, thanks for your reply.  Yes, google and Sync have all got full permissions and are otherwise operating as normal.

I have done a little more testing and have noticed that if I 'Open' a file from my storage and make changes I can choose 'Save' and the file saves back to cloud storage without any problems.  However, if I choose 'New' and create a new document, or if duplicate an existing file, and then try to 'Save' it or 'Save As', I get the error.

I can't open or import .afdesign or .afphoto files from Google Drive directly because the files are greyed out but I blame Google, it is the worst cloud service. All other cloud services like iCloud, Dropbox, Onedrive work well and Google drive has always been behind the rest of the services. We know google like to have full access to all your private data, it is an unsupported file type for google and so that may be the reason.

As a work around I can open such files using the Files app and an IOS Shortcut in Affinity.

Affinity Photo, Designer, Publisher 1.10 and 2.6 on macOS 15.4 Beta Sequoia on M1 Mac Mini 16GB 1TB
Affinity Photo, Designer, Publisher 1.10 and 2.6 on  Windows 10 Pro.  (revived !)
Affinity Photo, Designer, Publisher 2.6 on M1 iPad Pro 11” on iPadOS beta 18.4

I'm the same when it comes to Google Drive, although I can normally save to it no problem.  I use https://www.sync.com/, which is very like Dropbox but cheaper, as my main cloud storage service.
