IanGreig Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 I sometimes need to save assets like graphic elements, alternative text etc. They become invisible when moved to the artboard — but I can't find a way to change that behaviour. I'm using Designer right now but this would apply equally to Publisher. Quote
walt.farrell Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 I think you are probably using the term "artboard" incorrectly. It has a specific usage, especially in Designer, for a kind of container object ("Artboard"). If your Designer document does not have any Artboards, then it has a Canvas. The area outside the Canvas (or outside the Artboards, if you have any) is called the "pasteboard". If you're saying that you have this problem when you move an Asset onto the pasteboard, and you're not using Artboards, then you need to disable the option View > View Mode > Clip to Canvas. In addition to Walt's hint for AD in APub you would additionally deactivate the button "Toggle Preview Mode" in the Toolbar to make objects in the workspace / pasteboard area visible. walt.farrell 1 Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
IanGreig Posted April 20, 2023 Author Posted April 20, 2023 Thanks for correcting my clumsy terminology. I meant 'pasteboard'. Walt's advice worked for me. I didn't find 'Toggle Preview Mode' in Designer but it may apply to Publisher? I will be there tomorrow... I use and greatly appreciate all of the Affinity applications, literally every day. walt.farrell 1 Quote
David in Mississippi Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 I am also working this issue for Affinity products version 2. In DESIGNER 2.1 and PUBLISHER 2.1, this works fine: View > View Mode > Clip to Canvas, with the shortcut key = \ (backslash). However, in PHOTO 2.1, that menu item and shortcut key is not available. I'm still looking, so if anyone knows how to do this in PHOTO, please let us all know. If it is NOT available in Photo 2.1 (ff), then AFFINITY DESIGNERS, please add it to the list of improvements to the next version. Thanks, everyone. Quote

This is the Questions part of the forum. You would need to raise that request in the Feedback part of the forums. David in Mississippi Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 Thanks to Walt for that feedback. However, it seems that this: 2 hours ago, walt.farrell said: It's not possible. It seems short-sighted to think that people working in Photo would never needt need to store things off to the side of the canvas while working on other parts of an image. I cannot see any reason for not allowing us to make those things visible. And yes, I'll take this suggestion over to the feedback thread. I appreciate your comment and feedback. Take care. walt.farrell 1 Quote
