Hi,

I'm also having issues with the resource manager. Publisher will update single pdf- and image files quite well, but if pdf consists of more pages/spreads (I tried 6 spreads), the program goes blank and I have to force it to shut down. My files are linked to the Google Drive -desktop, but the problem has appeared before, even when the files were on my regular hard drive and not in cloud location. I'm using Windows 10 and latest version of Affinity Publisher 2.

Hi @VNA,

Thanks for your report and I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble. Just to let you know I have 'split' your post to a new thread, as the previous thread you posted in was regarding macOS.

I'm not seeing the same behaviour here - are you able to attach a copy of your PDF file and the .afpub where this occurs please?

If you'd like a private upload link for this file, please don't hesitate to ask :)

@Dan C Thank you, I uploaded the files. For locating the pdf in the file, I included a screenshot of the resource manager and the page numbers (44-59) where the pdf-spreads are.

Many thanks for providing that for me - after relinking the PDF file I then opened this separately in Publisher and edited some of the text, moved a few images etc and re-exported the PDF, replacing the linked file.

I then updated the Linked PDF in the .afpub file, which correctly updated as expected.

I note you mention that these files are currently in a cloud synced location, but has also occurred in a local folder for you. Can you please try copying both the .afpub and linked files to a local folder that is not synced using GDrive, then relink the placed files in your Publisher document to the new location and try editing the PDF again for me?

Out of interest, what sort of changes are you making to the PDF externally, when updating causes the Affinity app to go blank?

Thanks for the update Dan.

I tried editing the pdf on a local folder, and updating via resource manager worked now just fine, when .afpub file was also in the same local folder.

As a notion, when using GDrive, my pdf and .afpub files are usually located in different folders/locations, since I have a lot of organized files to work with. Having said this, I tried to move the files into the same folder in GDrive to see if that would be the cause. Unfortunately that did not resolve the issue and Publisher froze again (program not responding). I waited 7 minutes before forcing the program to quit, I took a timer :D

The changes I've made in GDrive have been quite minor: editing text, moving an image, adding a vector line on a map, etc.

edit: I've usually worked with a workaround by pressing "Replace document" -button in the upper panel. With that way, the pdf-files update just fine even in GDrive. So it's the resource manager that seems to cause the issue for me. This workaround is fine for me, but with many pages or spreads of pdf, updating them one by one is a bit tedious.

No problem at all, thanks for letting me know - our team are aware of a few issues with GDrive so I'll be sure to update the development log with this information now as we hope to improve this in the future :)
