lekcaj Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 I am having issues with Linked files in Publisher. It is my understanding that if I have the 'automatically update linked resources when modified externally' checked, the files should be updated in the file. Currently I have to close the publisher file and reopen it to see the changes that have been made externally. in the attached Image you will see what my settings are and you can see in the background a Designer file I have saved, and the Publisher file it's placed where the update hasn't occurred (made in Los Angeles text) I am not sure if the correct behavior is to have the file update automatically, without forcing a refresh, but even my 'Update' button is greyed out. Meaning, I can't even force the update and have to close the file down and reopen. I have given all of affinity suite full access to my disk under 'privacy and security' as I read somewhere that if this was not done it wouldn't update. Am I missing something obvious or is something off. AHAM 1 Quote
walt.farrell Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 I think there may be issues with Placed documents (PDF, afdesign, etc.) vs Placed images (JPG, TIFF, PNG) and the automatic updating. So you might get it to work automatically if you exported an image of your Designer file, and Placed that (if that would work for you). I am surprised the Update button in the Resource Manager doesn't work, but that suggests that Publisher has not recognized that the Linked file changed. And that thought prompts me to ask where you have these files stored. Your screenshot of the Resource Manager is too small for me to figure that out. If they're somewhere in the network, or on an external drive, you might try storing them on a local disk and using them from there. The first word in the Resource Manager for the highlighted file's folder location is Dropbox. Which could also be the issue. lekcaj Posted January 17, 2023 Author Posted January 17, 2023 I think the issue is with Dropbox. Keeping everything in the same Dropbox folder, I created a jpeg and after making changes and saving, it didn’t update similar to the designer file. As soon as i put the files on my desktop and replaced the link with the new files on the desktop they both updated instantly without me having to force an update. Same publisher file, same ‘placed’ files(except for their location.) i hope this is something that can be addressed at some point, as i have all of my files on Dropbox and save them locally with ‘make available offline’. It’s the way i have worked for quite sometime now and have never had an issue with links in InDesign. I was planning on switching the office to this over adobe but will now need to see if this is an issue specific to Dropbox or something that will be an issue on a network setup as well. On a side note, I was having issues with links being lost on the iPad app, but i use Dropbox there too. I am assuming there is something about how Dropbox works that is causing this now. Quote
Grum Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 I have exactly the same issue with placed .afdesign files and I'm also using Dropbox. I can confirm that it only occurs when the linked files are in the Dropbox folder - anywhere else on my Mac and they work perfectly. I would be grateful if this could be fixed ASAP as we work remotely and need to keep all of our files on Dropbox. Quote
abra100pro Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 I have the same issue with Designer. Both, a PSD-File and a .afdesign-File are not updated and update button is greyed out. I hope Serif is gonna fix this – it worked with AD 1.x. I'm working solely on Dropbox. Would be a super major issue for us, if that'd stay. Quote

Catshill Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 I have the same issue and I am not using an external cloud source. Quote
Dan C Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Thanks for letting me know & I'm sorry to hear this - I have replied to your issue regarding this here, where we will continue to investigate Catshill 1 Quote
