Hi all,

I am new to the Forum and total beginner with Affinity Designer 2.

I have the following issue, I use MacOS in English and for a number of reasons I cannot change the system's language. I am working on a file which has over 900 words that need to be spell checked in German.

  • I cannot simply "Select All" and replace the spell check from the Character panel, because there are as many text objects as words—it would take forever.
  • I cannot change the system's default language.

How can I change in Affinity Designer 2 the Spell Check default language to German?

I apologize if this question was asked and solved already, after 30 minutes searching, I wasn't able to find an answer.

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

For an existing document, you cannot change the text spelling language globally. The language was assigned when you created the text.

If all the relevant text has a Text Style assigned, you can change the Spelling Language in the Text Style, and it should affect all the words.

If you also own Publisher 2, you should be anble Open the file in Publisher and use Find and Replace to find all the words and change the Spelling Language.

If I understand what you are trying to do correctly; if your German text is in separate blocks to any English text then you can set those blocks in the Character Panel > Language to use German instead of English.
And in Designer’s Menubar go to: Text > Spelling > and select Check Spelling While Typing.
If I’ve not understood correctly perhaps you can post some screenshots or a sample document of what you are wanting to do.

Thank you both!

Clicking out of the text, then selecting all elements of the Artboard and then changing the language from the Character panel, did apply the correct spellcheck to all of the elements selected in one click.

It is super straightforward once you know the right way… 😅

Really enjoying the software. Think you guys have a new fan ✌️
