Hello forum,

is it possible to import/place a graphic/photo like a scissor to a Publisher document and add a shadow to this scissor?

- is it possible to remove the "ununsed parts" of the photo(freistellen?)" within Publisher?

- is it possible to define the direction of the shadow (very often it's on the lower right side of the graphic)

- is an alpha-channel required?

- are other tools (than Publiher) required for those tasks?

Thank's a lot in advance for you help!

Ralph

PS
- I do not yet own Publisher:(

- some times ago a heard the term "mask unsharp". Is this technique required as well?

Yes it is possible to do what you want.

No alpha channel is required but is quite useful if it actually is there in the  "graphic/photo". If there is no alpha channel (the transparency part of the image) you need to make a mask to 'remove the "ununsed parts" of the photo(freistellen?)"'

Finally the shadow's angle and distance are completely variable.

Mask off, whole Photo has shadow.

mask on, just the roof has the shadow.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Do you mean the mask can be made as well in Publisher?

Yes, I used the Pen Tool to make a curve for the Clipping Mask. Publisher on its own has no Pixel brush so you cannot do Pixel based masks.

If you can afford it I would suggest buying the complete suite, it really is a very good deal in terms of bang for buck. The price in Canadian dollars is 100 for Publisher alone for either Mac or Windows only. But for the Universal license (all three applications) it would be 240 and that means you can use it on Windows and Mac. Plus you get an awful lot of other tools.

Thank's for this informations! And for the case the margings/borders of the importet graphics are too sharp, is it possible to unsharpen those  margings/borders directly in Publisher?

@ralph890,

Yes you can apply an fx to the curve I suggested as a clipping mask. I would use the Gaussian blur fx.
