Hi,

I've just bought a PC (I'm typically a Mac User) and have installed Cartoon Animator 4.  CA4 allows me to open up Affinity Designer from within the program in order to edit my characters.

My understanding is that Affinity Designer doesn't allow that on Windows 11.  I'm not familiar with Windows or the different MSI installers etc that I keep hearing about.  Is there a way to make this function work?

If the other app has an option to setup external editing if can be done using Affinity Designer. However if you originally used the MSIX installer the our V2 apps, I'd recommend uninstalling them and downloading the .exe based installer from your Affinity Store account. The .exe versions make it a lot easier for third party editing to be setup as they apps aren't installed into a sandboxed location.

Hi

The only way I got it to start working with Cartoon Animator 5 (CA5) was by re-installing Affinity apps using MSI instead of MSIX. Then I was able to call Affinity Designer 2 (AD2) from within CA5, to import a new vector picture back to CA5 by exporting the picture from AG2. Note that saving the file was NOT sufficient (I had to export it in the same path as the saved file for it to trigger a popup in CA5 to indicate that the modified file was available from AD2). Unfortunately this workaround works only for Affinity Designer (AD2), and not Affinity Photo (AP2), for which the popup window to import back the picture in Cartoon Animator does NOT occur when you save (and/or export) the modified drawing in AP2. In other words, I am able to configure AP2 as the external PSD editor in CA5, and when I click on the icon in CA5 it does open AP2 (I can also click on the PSD editor icon and it opens AP2 with the drawing I selected in CA5), but when I save (and/or export), nothing happens in CTA5 (no popup). This is VERY annoying...

Please advise. Thanks.

you need to check the "Enable Save over imported PSD files" box in Edit/Preferences/General menu.

Note that if you do that, any text objects will be rasterized when you Save, and will no longer be editable as text.
