Geetardude Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 EDIT: After posting, I realized I did all the below in Affinity Photo 1, I did not correctly update my Lightroom "Edit In" to reflect the vs 2 location. However, I still have exactly the same issues when trying in Affinity Photo 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi All First, I am a newbie in Affinity Photo 2. I mainly use Photoshop's content aware fill and I am trying to replicate this in Affinity. I hope I am using the tools the wrong way, or can improve my settings. Any help would be appreciated My steps 1 I import the image, create a duplicate layer, and hide the bottom one 2. I expand the image's canvas using the crop tool 3. I use the Flood select tool and then edit - Fill - inpainting 4. This results in a very messy background,..I did honestly expect Affinity to handle this much better (although in some other image it was not as bad) 5. But lets pretend its not that bad, and I want to remove it with InPainting Brush Tool. But that is not working great..I have to do multiple passes and at some point I am even getting transient to an transparent background For context, this is one pass using Photoshop for the same.... Geetardude Posted February 16, 2023 Author Posted February 16, 2023 Update.. I tried another image...now I am also getting a thin line between the original and the inpainted area Quote
Geetardude Posted February 16, 2023 Author Posted February 16, 2023 Thanks.I tested it, and it was working. Basically, I have to do it still the old way, and there is no way I can make this happen in one go? I guess its a workaround, but I would have preferred it closer to PS way Thanks again Quote
user_0815 Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 Afaik there is no one-step way. However, using the keyboard shortcut ⎇+Backspace helps to speed it up. inpaint-.mov Geetardude 1 Quote
Geetardude Posted February 16, 2023 Author Posted February 16, 2023 Ok, great. That works a little bit faster. Thank you I wonder if anyone has put in a feature request to have content aware fill directly on expanding crop like in PS: Its really helpful Quote
PaulEC Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 A slightly quicker way is to use the crop tool to increase the canvas size. (Use two diagonal handles to adjust differently on each side.) If you want to increase the border proportionally, you could, alternatively, use the Resize Canvas command. Select the transparent area (either using the Flood Select Tool, or the Select Menu to select the transparent area). Expand the selection by a few pixels, then use the Inpainting command to infill the transparent area. Most of these actions can be performed with keyboard shortcuts, and you could speed things up even further by creating a macro. The main thing is not to try to increase the area too much in one go (it will depend on the amount of background in the original image). Any slight "glitches" can be tidied up with the Inpainting or Clone Tools. Once you get the hang of doing this, it can be done in a matter of seconds, and gives more control than an automated, "one-click", solution!
