Idea: add overlay mode to display mouse clicks and shortcut keys

Recommended Posts

Not sure if Serif likes the idea, but it might be nice to have a toggle-able overlay when recording screencasts that displays hotkeys and mouse clicks. Makes it easier for us to show to you where things may go wrong. Just an idea — but it doesn't really belong to the ideas requests either. 😉

For Windows, there's Microsoft's Powertoys that has a mouse click overlay (but since it doesn't do keyboard shortcuts AFAIK I generally forget about it). This is what I mean, illustrated by Blender's Screencast keys:

It displays commands on the left and the mouse buttons and keys pressed on the right (if you press other buttons, it will fade out the old ones in a list as well).

This might just be wanted for Windows. Recording the screen on macOS can show the mouse clicks and users can record the screen with the on-screen keyboard shown so that Serif can see what keys you're pressing when.
