(Solved)(Windows) How to update a MSIX installation? --> Hangs forever if you press "Install" button.

Recommended Posts

I open up Publisher... I always get "Would you like to install the update from 2.0.3 to 2.0.4?" ....If I click install, it causes the whole application to hang.  Okay... I wait for a few minutes watching my Speedify app to indicate there's a download happening... but nothing!

How do I update Publisher ...or any of these installed MSIX applications I bought directly from Affinity Store?

Solution:  Download MSIX file.. open it.. there should be a UPDATE button... click that.

Then in case of trouble via updating, just download the 2.0.4 MSIX or MSI versions from the Affinity store and ...

  1. Deinstall APub 2.0.3 etc.
  2. Install APub 2.0.4 etc.

Wouldn't that remove settings or preferences?

Your personal user made changed/added settings should be stored in your users home directory "%USERPROFILE%/.affinity/..." you can backup or rename that one for sureness before performing a deinstall/ newly install. - Even I doubt that Win auto removes an ".affinity/" folder in your user home on a deinstall, you can backup it first for sureness, so can always restore it on demand.

What sucks is that you have to download the "whole" 500+ mb file to update... when you should only need to download just the update portion.

Most of us can just let the app download the smaller installer, and the updating  works.

Something local to your system is probably causing the problem. The difficulty will be in figuring out what.
