(User error; sorry) Typography options in Character panel become unavailable

Recommended Posts

Using Arial, I was experimenting with formatting fractions. So I typed some numbers, like 6-17/64, selected the 17/64, and in the Character panel, Typography options, i was able to select the 1/2 (Fraction) icon and get the effect I wanted. E.g.,

However, when I moved into the upper line (or typed some more numbers), and tried the same thing, all the typography options except Stylistic Sets had disappeared:

I've tried this with several different documents, and have closed and restarted Publisher, and have even Restarted my Windows 10 system. It's quite consistent in its behavior.

Publisher 2.0.3.1688.

Very odd. On MacOS I can't get those to ever grey out, even with the Move tool and no text frame selected.

What happens if you delete that blank first line? What about moving the problem line below the line that worked?

OK, I've figured out what's happening to me. Those Typography options are only available when I have text selected (highlighted). They cannot be set otherwise, and are grayed out.

That's the way it worked in V1, too. But in V2 with the dark interface I'm being thrown off by how completely everything disappears when the options are inactive.

Sorry for not figuring it out earlier.

That's better than on macOS - they are only greyed out for me when no documents are open. They're available when a new document is created but have no effect, and drawing the first text frame will revert to the previous settings. They should be greyed out on macOS, too.
