It's not clear what you mean by "leave the image and go back".

Do you mean:

  1. Close the image, and Open it again?
    or
  2. Switch to a different document tab within Photo, then switch back to the first tab?

In any case, a blurred low-res image that you've Placed generally indicates that you Linked it (vs Embedding), and that the application (Photo, Designer, Publisher) can no longer find the image at that location.

When everything works correctly, that can happen legitimately if:

  • The folder containing the image has been moved or renamed.
  • The image itself has been moved or renamed.
  • The path to the image has changed. For example, if an external disk was mounted as drive X originally but was later remounted as drive Y. Or if the image is in some form of cloud storage, and the path to it changed.

So as a first step in investigating we would need to know more details of where the images were stored.

Recovery: If the images are all in the same folder, you should be able to open the Resource Manager (Window > Resource Manager... from the Menu), pick one of them that has a status of Missing, and click the Relink button at the bottom of the dialog. That should Relink everything from the same folder that's missing.

Sorry, I realize I left a lot out of my first post.  I am working with the latest IPad version of Photo v2 on a 5th gen IPad Pro with IPadOS 16.2.  I am creating a montage made up of multiple images that are all in my Photos on my IPad.  This happened when I had 6 photos “Place from Photos” in my main image or 15.  I Place the photos and then exit that image back to the main menu.  When I open the main image back up 2 or three of the photos are now blurred as if they were now low res images.  When “Place”ing I don’t see an option to link or embed.

FYI, I used v1 to do the same task and it worked fine.   Maybe a memory handling issue?

More info. I was trying to recreate what happen to send you screen shots.  I placed several images into a 10” x 15” main image and exited, reopened a few times and no blurred images.  Then I put a Fill layer behind them (to turn the background from white to black).  This is what I had done in my previous project.  When I exited and reopened multiple images were blurred (see attached files)

Thanks for the additional details.

Just for your awareness: that kind of situation is more appropriate as a Question, or as a Bug report, not as Feedback. With these added details a Moderator will probably move this request to one of those locations.

Sorry, but I don't have a good answer for what you're seeing.

I couldn’t figure out how to make a bug report to Affinity.   How di I do that?

You post in the appropriate Bugs forum, based on the application and OS you're using..
