As I work through transferring text from Apple Pages to Affinity Publisher 2 I have two recurring issues that I think/wish would be easy to resolve. I just want to set the font style to the one I have chosen for the manuscript and make it apply to all the text I move from app to app. Isn't this possible? As it is, I have to re-select all new text and manually change the font each time.

Also, it's bothersome that after transferring text every single paragraph has a double tab indentation so I have to move to the start of each paragraph, remove the incorrect indentation and tab once to make it correct. Why does AP2 have to add another tab to every paragraph of copied text? Can't this be avoided?

Thanks for your help,

John

Instead of copy/paste frame by frame: How about to export as PDF from Pages, then opening the PDF in APub? This way will also maintain the text formatting which you can easily save as text style.

There can be several reasons for the double tab issue, e.g. a conversion problem in the formatting when copying between Pages and APub. – Try this: Open TextEdit with a new document and paste one of the affected paragraphs from Pages into TextEdit. Does it also show the two tabs? If yes, they come from Pages. If no, can you uplod a .pages example + an .afpub example where this happens?

Instead of manual removing these double-tabs you could use the Find & Replace panel to replace every unwanted double-tab by nothing.

Thanks for your thorough response, thomaso. I don’t think the pdf option will work for me because I do little to no formatting in Pages and have specific parameters for chapters in AP2, but I’ll keep that in mind.

The TextEdit idea is excellent, I will try that. Find and replace is a great suggestion too.

 Thanks again,

John

Regardless of text style, if you have done any layout in Pages then the PDF as transfer format may help, too. Alternatively to open a PDF you can also load single pages into an .afpub via menu Document > Add Pages from File… / or copy the entire text from all pages in Pages.app and paste it into a text frame in APub + use the text flow option.

If I set up a style - here 'Transfer' - with a 5mm first line indent in Pages, apply it to a run of text...

and then copy and paste the text into APub2, the resulting text in APub2 also has a 5mm first line indent:

If you really do want to use tabs to indent text, then you could always Find and Replace in AFP. Search on the double tabs and replace with single tabs, rather than replacing each one manually.
