laurent32 Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 When you work on an afpub file that in fact "includes" texts and plenty of afdesigner and afphoto files you always end up with hundreds and hundreds of layers and or groups… I feel I miss a sort of CMD-F (search) to get to a specific layer (object) directly (supposing I named it correctly). Did I miss an affinity function there ? Thanks. walt.farrell Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 I don't think I understand your problem. When you include (Place, I presume) a .afdesign or .afphoto fine into a Publisher document, you get 1 layer per file. Where do the "hundreds" of layers come from Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. laurent32 Posted January 5, 2023 Author Posted January 5, 2023 If I look for a specific objet that I have named before, I would love to do a CMD-F for that name and then it would show up in my layer list, opening groups if necessary. The term I used, layer, might not be the right one. No "layer" notion in QUARK XPRESS v2.12 I started with… hey might now be 40 years ago… !! if you have a 48 pages A3 newspaper with plenty of adds in it and if you open the groups, looking for somethings, it might be more than tedious and yes you might be scrawling among hundreds and hundreds of elements… The older I get the more I work with databases (filemaker) and try to automate a maximum of things using names or codes… By the way I'm drastically waiting for a link between filemaker and affinity products… We badly need automation in order to be productive after having being creative ! walt.farrell Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Thanks. Perhaps the Resource Manager will help? It gives you an overview of all the Places files, and lets you locate them in the document. laurent32 Posted January 5, 2023 Author Posted January 5, 2023 Yes the resource manager could have been a nice place to start BUT you cannot (either) do a simple CMD-F to find things… Thanks for your interest. And you can see previews, if you want to operate visually. And when you see the one you want the Locate button will take you right to it. laurent32 Posted January 5, 2023 Author Posted January 5, 2023 "you can sort them to make finding them easier" + 1 point "you can see previews" + 1 point "the Locate button will take you right to it" + 1 point All ok… BUT no good if you have hundreds of imports that have random names (no specific logic in the naming procedure) and too long to look at all those little pictures… Minus 3 points.
