Charles Jenkins Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 I'm using Affinity Photo 2 on an iPad. When I select the Clone Brush and touch the Apple Pencil tip to screen where I want to select my source, a little message tip pops up telling me that I'm using the Clone Brush and I must first touch and hold to select a source. But no matter how long or how still I hold the pencil there, no source is ever selected, and when I pick it up and then try to paint somewhere, I just get the same pop-up message again. What's the secret to getting the program to recognize that I really am selecting a source on the iPad? Quote

Try using your finger, instead of the pencil. Charles Jenkins Posted December 15, 2022 Author Posted December 15, 2022 Ugh. That was it. Thanks! I never considered it because I have "touch only for gestures" turned on. Quote

Merlina Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 I’ve tried holding down the pencil and my finger. I am getting the crosshair like it’s selecting a source but it won’t paint anything im cloning and I just see the crosshair moving as I move the pencil even though it’s not where the pencil is touching but where I sampled. ETA power of posting I guess. I apologize I can’t figure out how to delete my post. I realized right after I had “current layer” as the option and needed to change it… Quote

With clone brush I recommend adding a pixel layer and selecting that then set clone to current layer and below. This way the cloning is done non destructively on the pixel layer, not the original layer. Want to see image without the clone, just turn off the cloned pixel layer. walt.farrell 1 Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen).
