Affinity Photo V2 stuck on splash screen (macOS, Catalina 10.15.7)

Recommended Posts

Intel i7 iMac running Catalina 10.15.7.

Downloaded new Affinity Photo V2, copied to Applications folder successfully.

Click to open. Splash screen shows, then disappears (but can be shown again by clicking on application icon in dock).

Never proceeds any further. Right-clicking the dock icon and selecting Quit results in a crash (full report attached)

Identical behaviour with Designer V2 and Publisher V2.

Hi Martin Hunt, welcome to the forum.

I noticed you have a universal license, could you try downloading the trial from the mac app store? (once you sign in this will become the full version).

In the meantime we'll investigate what's happening with your install.

Hi Lee.

Tried downloading the trial version from the Mac App Store as you suggested but I have the same issue. Looked at the ethernet traffic egress from the Mac (using tcpdump) and I can see nothing untoward regarding connectivity (actually I see no traffic I can relate to this app at all).

The Affinity apps are opening no windows at all - they are simply stuck showing the splash screens - so I'm not even getting to the point in startup where licensing or network connectivity would be relevant.

If you need any further debug information please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi Lee,

If it is helpful, these are two further debug events from the console, reported immediately the application tries to launch;

Finally had the spare time to look at this in detail; tracked the startup using Xcode/instruments.

The Affinity V2 applications were all crashing due to a failure to mkdir folder ~/Library/Group Containers/6LVTQB9699.com.seriflabs/v2

I had incorrect ownership permission set on folder 6LVTQB9699.com.seriflabs, after file recovery from a previous hard disk failure.

All working now !! 😀
