Hi to anyone reading this.

It will seem pathetic to skilled users but I can't work it out. I have looked at what others say - but it seems to be about publisher issues.

When I use Affinity Designer Artistic Text tool in a combination that I want - it is fine.

But when I want to use exactly the same combination on a separate line of text in the same document, it defaults to Arial. So I have to go through the selection process of the font I want and any colour or design again to replicate my original choice

Is there a simple way of applying the same thing?

Thank you.

Hi @Luddite,

If you wish to maintain consistency across multiple text frames/artistic text one way to do this is via Text styles. In Designer you can create a Character/Paragraph style, define the font, colour, positioning etc. from within the text style window and then assign it to your artistic text via the context toolbar/Text styles panel. You can then assign any newly created artistic text frames to this same style and update them dynamically from the text style menu.

To take it a step further, you can default the artistic text tool to use your pre-defined style (or even just standard context toolbar settings) by selecting the text layer and going to Edit > Defaults > Synchronise From Selection.

Or: Select a frame that is styled as wanted > choose "Copy" > select any other text frame(s) > choose "Paste Style".

If you can live with a "Frame Text" frame: in APub editing / styling a text frame preserves the current settings for further text frame creation, without the need to use the defaults. But I can't make it work in AD. @NathanC, do you know whether this is feature does not exist in AD?

Thank you Nathan and Thomaso

I don't think I described very well what I meant, but your response seemed close to it Thomaso. Nathan I think your suggestion was about creating a style to save and use on a future document. I'm an absolute novice and no real talent to 'design' - although I am watching YouTube to try to expand the huge options Affinity D offers.

My problem is this. Sometimes, I do a simple poster with maybe several individual lines of text (so I can move them around for spacing purposes). So, if I did the first phrase in font FinkCasual 64 and 3D and wanted the next two phrases to look exactly the same - without going back to Artistic text and inputting same choices (tedious) I didn't know what to do.

I have just tried what you suggested Thomaso but 'Paste style' is greyed out.

I am grateful to you both for the time you have taken to respond.

Kind regards

Luddite

To enable "Paste Style" you can't use selected text for "Copy" but have to select an object with the Move Tool – whereas for "Paste Style" you can either have an object or some text selected.

@NathanC, do you have an idea why a text selection does not work to "Copy" for "Paste Style" but requires an object selection?

Looks like this problem has been addressed in V2 as i'm able to Copy > Paste style between two different Artistic text frames by highlighting the text without the need to select the text object.

I'm also not seeing any issues with text settings/styling in Designer V2 as the settings are being preserved when switching tools and creating additional Art/Text frames.

Thank you Nathan. I have bought all the new Affinity programmes and had found that a solution has been incorporated. Thank you very much for bothering with my simple queries. Kind regards

Luddite
