cgidesign Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 I found out why my brush speed was slow. I thought I need hardware acceleration, but no - changing a wrong Windows setting was good enough. For some reason the max. CPU performance was set to below 100% in the Windows power plan. Anything below 100% (even 99%) is severely downclocking my CPU. With - now - 100% max. performance the brushing is ok for me. Maybe that helps others as well. Dan C 1 Quote
debraspicher Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 Both screens depict the same behavior. The section you are reading is current speed. It is not your boost/max speed. This number varies by a lot depending on any number of things. If you look at your base speed in both, they are actually the same. The 4.x is boost behavior and lasts for a short period and is typical at low utilization/single core operations. Pulling up something like HW Monitor to monitor clocks and running Cinebench multi-core benchmark on all your cores will give you more realistic maximums. You could move to High Performance profile to maximize performance. Quote
cgidesign Posted October 27, 2022 Author Posted October 27, 2022 Yes and no - the screenshots were taken while I was continously painting wth a huge bush for some time. It seems the cores driving the brush engine can hold the turbo boost for a long enough time (even though I hear the fans working then). An "all core boost" would not last long but as it is on my notebook, for brushing it has enough cooling power (well, it's a gaming notebook, it was build for exactly this scenario, I just feel stupid to not have checked the power plan earlier). cgidesign Posted October 29, 2022 Author Posted October 29, 2022 I investigated a bit more. I was a bit wrong regarding the details. APh is using all cores for brushing, not only a few ones (seems to be a well implemented multithreading). PowerPlan CPU = 95% If CPU in PowerPlan is set to 95% it maxes out at 2.36 GHz. APh idle - no load -------------- APh at full load (huge airbrush many layers and adjustments) - brush is lagging and stalls after some time. I have to wait a few seconds till APh finishes the queued strokes. -------------- PowerPlan CPU = 100% - CPU is throttleling at full load but is still fast enough for smooth brushing - full turbo would be around 4.4 GHz but it runs at max 3.9 GHz at full load. Ignore the below screenshot - it appears here even though I deleted it (it is a copy of the one from the top). Quote
