Affinity crashing frequently (solved)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been using Affinity for a variety of projects for over a year and recently have been experiencing some issues with a particular document's stability. It crashes a lot, and most of the crashes I can't reliably reproduce. They seem to be tied to certain pages, as it'll crash a number of times on a certain page, I'll delete that page, and then do the same thing on a new page without issue. Sometimes it's when I resize a text box, sometimes it's when I update the TOC through the preflight checker, and sometimes it seems random. At present, I can reliably recreate two crashes.

The first crash occurs when I try to link the triple-columned text box on document page 14 to the single-columned text box on page 15. It attaches just fine, but if I try to unattach it the program crashes about a second later. The second crash occurs when I try to type on document page 46. I will create a textbox that matches the margins, set the text style to "Heading 2," and type "After Passing." Then I'll press enter twice, then the program crashes.

My OS is Windows 10 and I've tried it with both hardware acceleration on and off with the same outcome. The crashes first started occurring late last week (I want to say Thursday night?) and I can't think of anything that's changed in my setup to cause them.

I've attached the file and two of the crash reports. Crash report 4a2463c9 was generated when I tried to link the triple-column text box to the single column box. Crash report f6331d50 is from page 46. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, as it's severely slowed down my work over the past couple days.

P.S. please don't judge me for my mediocre poetry

EDIT: Uninistalling Windows 10 update KB5017262 seems to have solve the problem. Thank you @N.P.M.!

Hi @Orangutan_Promoter

There may be a problem with NET Framework components. To check and repair this, download the Repair Tool from the Microsoft website.

Thanks so much for the instruction to uninstall KB2017262 Windows update. I was having a horrible and unbearable problem of constant Publisher crashes while making an index. As soon as I uninstalled Windows 10 update KB5017262, and then restarted my computer, the problem instantly and completely stopped! Thank you all so much for that suggestion!
