Editing imported PDF figure directly in document (rather than <Embedded> tab)?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm not a graphics designer by training, just a grad student trying to generate figures so I apologize in advance if I'm not using the correct terms. I generate most of my figures in python, then save as PDF before importing them in Affinity Designer for final assembly/adjustments.

The import works fine, however I can never directly edit the imported figure directly in the file I imported it to. Instead, when I click on the imported figure, a new tab opens up called <Embedded>, which contains only that figure (this is editable and changes are reflected in the original figure). I find this annoying, so I've been simply copy/pasting the figure from the <Embedded> tab directly into the original document, but this significantly reduces all line widths. Aside from having to readjust all the lines, it's very tedious to manually copy/paste each figure.

I was previously using CorelDRAW, in which it's possible to edit imported PDFs directly in the current file. Is there a way to do this in Affinity Designer?

Hi @smail

What is if you open the file(s) directly in designer instead of importing?

Can you export your shapes in phython in svg-format?

@N.P.M.

Shure, if you open the file directly? I think, If one open a svg, depending of the structure, it should open as layered file. Am I wrong?

Sound that you place instead of just open the PDF files. Use the "File > Open..." menu command instead of "File > Place...", in order to get it open the common layers way.
