How to make a wrap-around font with planetary belt effect?

Recommended Posts

Hi Poto!

I don't think that the first effect can be done with the basic features of one of the Affinity apps. Probably this will only work with a 3D-Rendering-App like Blender. Or with a Plugin.

The second one can be created by aligning text to a vector curve. You only need to create an oval shape, convert it to curves and write on the curve with the Art Text Tool. After that, you can straighten the single letters with the Character Panel. There is a function to shear the letters, so that their main lines will become vertical again. It will of course not really be in absolutely realistic perspective, but maybe good enough.

Edit: One idea concerning the first effect: In GIMP, there is a filter called "Map to Object" (or so, not sure at the moment - you find it in the "Filter" menu under "Map"). There is possibly also a 3D-Donut, you can map your text to. Possibly also the very cool free Plugin G'MIC (more than 500 additional filters) offers a filter of that kind. Can't check that at the moment. Maybe later.

... Or this effect, a three-dimensional sphere that can be mapped and then surrounded by a three-dimensional font

Try LibreDraw (from LibreOffice) ...

This is how you can create the second effect in Designer. To get the main lines of the characters vertical, use the highlighted field in the Character Panel. Its helpful to use a grid for it as an orientation.

Edit: I read about a tool named Kittl, that does such kinds of text manipulation. Didn't test it yet, but maybe its interesting for you. There is also some stuff from Gumroad in the Ressources Section of this forum. But I haven't tested it too.

con logo does not seem to be suitable to make a three-dimensional spherical effect, the size is too small

Then enhance it's size, scale it up first. Afterwards map it to the sphere and at the end export as/for the size you need.
