jonwright Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 I've created some artwork for a friend in Designer, and they've asked for it to have a white border. It's an A4 document, and they want a 1cm border. What's the best way to deal with this? Is it to simply draw a rectangle the size of the document and add a white stroke to the preferred width, or is there a better way? Thanks! Quote
Staff Callum Posted September 26, 2022 Staff Posted September 26, 2022 Hi JonWright, You have more or less hit the nail on the head workflow wise you could also open the artwork and then increase the document size by 1cm on each side which should leave you with a 1cm white border. Then if you export the file without transparent background enabled you should have a white border included in the final image. GarryP Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 Sounds like the best way to me. There are probably other ways but a single rectangle with a single stroke sounds like the easiest way. Unless they specifically don’t want anything to be ‘under’ the border – e.g. they want the content ‘cropped/clipped’ so that the border area is totally empty. In that case the process might be more complicated. Quote
jonwright Posted September 26, 2022 Author Posted September 26, 2022 Thanks guys! 33 minutes ago, GarryP said: Unless they specifically don’t want anything to be ‘under’ the border – e.g. they want the content ‘cropped/clipped’ so that the border area is totally empty. GarryP Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 Some people might want the border to be completely empty, for example if the design were to be used in a laser cutter or similar. In these cases the design may sometimes need to be manually ‘cut down’ to remove the portions of the design which were under the ‘border’ so that the laser didn’t cut there. If the border is purely cosmetic then a single rectangle, as mentioned above, is probably the easiest. Quote
