Decreasing strokeWidth on copies gradually

Recommended Posts

Hi, is it possible to decrease strokeWidth of elements gradually when copying/duplicating?

Like having 10 lines, starting with 10pt, the next 9pt... to the 10th having 1pt eG.

(Hope this makes sense 🙂)

Have a nice day all

It certainly makes sense, but I don’t think it’s currently possible! We can’t even ‘power duplicate’ a shape to give an arithmetic — instead of geometric — progression of sizes: if you duplicate a 100 px square and change the size of the new one to 90 px, the next in the series will be 81 px (i.e. 90% of 90) instead of 80 px.

Additional to Alfred's hints: Power Duplicate appears to consider only those changes which may get set via the Transform Panel. And its change of parameters affects all duplicates in the same way, so it doesn't matter if you have entered a formula or typed an absolute value. (In the sample below both was used.)

Stroke width: just in case (I don't know your wanted result): A quite limited workaround would be to use shape width instead of strokes – but it wouldn't work if you want to rotate or shear them at the same time.

The effect I want to achieve is sth like this (only quick, but principle: decreasing strokeWidth and opacity per copy)

That would be very easy if AD had a Blend Tool, but it doesn’t! :(

Alternatively & not exactly the same result: To reduce the object opacity successive you can use a transparency gradient, for instance here in APub with the Transparency Tool. Note, the gradient changes across each single object, so every has a part of the gradient.
