A D running very slow when using the pencil and brush tool which makes it impossible to function (one stroke takes 5-7 minutes to complete). Running on iMac, with latest version, and my fan comes on immediately when trying to use pencil tool. Do I need to re-install program? Any suggestions at this point would be greatly appreciated because the program is totally useless at this time...please help

Hi @lhobson,

Have you tried disabling Hardware Acceleration under Preferences > Performance and restarting the app to see if this makes an improvement? If this doesn't have an impact it would be beneficial if you could send a screenshot of your Performance Settings along with your 'About this Mac' Overview.

Additionally, before trying a re-install of the app I would suggest going through a factory reset of the app to clear all settings, the video below demonstrates how to do this along with backing up/restoring any custom resources (Tutorial is for Photo but it is the same process for Designer).

thank you so much for the suggestions that I will try immediately...do you think that my external hard drive could have effected this problem? Seems my external went hay-wire around the same time I was having the problem with A D...so I have no external at this time as my son is trying to fix it...grrrr

I went into Performance to restart app, but wasn't sure how to restart the app.

If you untick Hardware Acceleration when you click on the Close button, it should give you a choice of restarting the app. If you don't get that you can just quit it (like by using CMD+Q) & then start it up again manually.
