Hi all,

As per a previous post, I am trying to import a Word document into Publisher. The most consistent method seems to be to import as a PDF. However, sometimes Publisher groups lines of text into text frames even though that option is deselected on import.

Steps

  1. Open Publisher
  2. Import PDF
  3. Group lines of text into text frames is deselected on file open
  4. File opens ungrouped
  5. Close file
  6. Reopen, group lines of text into text frames is selected automatically.
  7. Deselect group lines of text into text frames.
  8. Open file
  9. Publisher then groups lines of text into text frames
  10. Open file, Group lines of text into text frames is deselected on file open, leave unselected.
  11. File opens ungrouped
  12. Close file
  13. Reopen, group lines of text into text frames is selected automatically.
  14. Deselect group lines of text into text frames.
  15. Open file
  16. Publisher then groups lines of text into text frames

You can see from the steps (two run throughs) that the behaviour is consistent in being unconsistent!

Any thoughts? This seems to be a bug.

I have included a video of the problem.

Regards,

Steve.

Hi @Steve_From_Oz,

Thanks for your report!

I can confirm I've been able to replicate this issue internally and therefore I'm logging this as a bug with our developers now.

I believe this to be a UI issue, where the checkbox state is 'remembered', such that it appears the option is unticked, however as far as I'm aware, this option should always be enabled by default when importing a PDF.

I hope this helps :)

Try exporting the file as .docx and importing that. Please use PDF only if there is absolutely no other way of getting the text, it may appear to be more work but there will be far fewer problems.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
