Unmerge layers?

Hoping someone can help me, I'm teaching myself how to use both Affinity programs. I have managed to merge layers by "Merge Visible", now I need to unmerge them to fix a mistake I made, can anyone tell me how I do this?

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Go to the History panel on the bottom right of the interface and drag the slider back until you undo the Merge step.

Thanks, but I accidentally closed it down and saved, now I only have "Set current selection" in the history?

If you saved and closed the file, there's no way to revert to a previous state unless you have enabled/checked File ▸ Save History With Document, which doesn't seem to be the case if you only have that step in the History panel.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get back to your original state now … :(

 

(But here’s a hint for future accidents: you can save the history with the document (File > Save History With Document), if you are prepared to deal with larger file sizes …  :))

Oops, MEB was faster …  ;)

 

(But here’s another idea … do you have a mobile Mac with local backups enabled? Perhaps you are lucky and find a previous version there …)

Thanks for your help guys, I really appreciate it. Sadly my mac didn't save any previous versions but it was easy enough to take down and redo! Thanks again!
