Woodpig Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 Hi everyone, This is probably a silly question with a simple answer, but I can't seem to solve it. I want to export a document in single pages (i.e. not facing), with a bleed on the outside edge only. However, I can only seem to find a way to alter the bleed on the document as a whole, which then applies to all spreads. Am I missing something? Thanks, Gareth. Quote

Woodpig Posted May 7, 2022 Author Posted May 7, 2022 It's what the publisher has asked for: bleed top, bottom, and outside edge. When I try to upload with a bleed on both sides, I get an error that the document is too wide. I suppose I could split the bleed with across both outer edges, but that's not idea - and not what they've asked for. Quote
walt.farrell Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 Thanks. I am not an expert, but it almost sounds like they're expecting you to provide facing-page spreads, not individual pages. Or that they're going to impose them back into facing-page format. You might inquire further about that, and see if you could just give them facing-page spreads to being with. Woodpig Posted May 7, 2022 Author Posted May 7, 2022 I thought that too, but when i upload facing page spreads, I get another error! I will inquire - but does that mean there's not a way of doing this? Quote
walt.farrell Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 Well, you can set the inner Bleed to 0 for a Facing Pages document in Document Setup if you unlink the settings. I don't know if that will accomplish what you need when exporting, but it's probably worth a try. Woodpig Posted May 7, 2022 Author Posted May 7, 2022 No, that doesn't work, I'm afraid. That's pretty much what I tried before. Quote
Woodpig Posted May 7, 2022 Author Posted May 7, 2022 OK, so this seems undoable using AP: You can only set bleed via the document settings, not for individual spreads You can set bleed for outer edges that are different from the inner edge, but only if you select "facing pages". If you select "single pages", then the "inner" and "outer" bleed settings change to "left" and "right" - which simply applies the same settings to each spread (and so won't work for my purposes). Any other ideas? Quote
PaulEC Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 Have you tried setting the document up as Facing Pages (with the margins set as needed), but then exporting the PDF as All Pages (rather than as spreads.)? Woodpig Posted May 7, 2022 Author Posted May 7, 2022 OK, I'm officially an idiot - I was exporting as All Spreads! Thank you! Quote

But doesn't that give you what you want? Or does something break when you then Export using All Pages? Woodpig Posted May 7, 2022 Author Posted May 7, 2022 Yes, I'm sorry, Walt - that's what I tried, but not exporting as "All Pages". As I said, I'm an idiot. Sorry! And thank you once again. Quote
