Just to clarify, Light Room and Aperture are DAM (Digital Asset Management) tools whereas AP like PS is a photo editor. As far as where to start, find a photo that you would like to edit and decide what you want it to look like when its done and then start editing it. If you aren't sure how to do something then post a question here (after you have checked the tutorials of course). If you need help seeing what AP is capable of I suggest watching more of and rewatching the tutorials as they give a great overview of the capabilities. Hope this helps.

I purchased Affinity Photo for Mac from  AppStore today after having had free trial for a few days. However, I cannot access app. Am awaiting refund now, but would like to use this app in the near future since it was very useful during the trial period. What could have gone wrong?
