I am stumped. I do understand the baseline grid for the document. But when it comes to baseline grid on an individual text box, I really don't understand what's going on. Is this a bug, do I overlook something? I want the first line of regular text to start on an orange line. Even when I activated the checkbox to align to baseline grid the text is not even on the grid. When I change the setting to Top of Frame instead of Inset, the text is aligning to the baseline grid, but not the first line. What's the logic behind all this?

Hi @Peter Maas,

Sorry to see you're having trouble!

From your screenshots provided, I cannot see why the baseline is not working as expected in these text frames.

Can you please provide a copy of this .afpub file here for me?

Many thanks in advance :)

Probably because of the bug first reported a year ago.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Thanks for the link provided and bringing this to my attention - I was not aware of this issue and I'm not sure why the thread wasn't investigated further, my apologies.

I'm getting this logged with our developers now, as I can confirm the minimum value needs to match the baseline grid start position value for the baseline to be used correctly and I do not believe is expected behaviour :)

Thanks, the link to the older report seems to be about the same behaviour. IMO it's a bug because I can really not make any sense of it, after struggling with it for several hours. And when you're at it: having a baseline grid counting from the top of the margin or top of page would be helpful as well. ;-)

I've uploaded the specific publisher file. Hope you can solve it. I would love to see a baseline grid per textbox, starting from the top of the page as an additional option. InDesign has it, so I hope to find it in Publisher too.

Where did the Paragraph Style named [Basic Paragraph] come from? I ask because I can achieve what you want to do if I make a new document and roll my own Paragraph Style then override the Baseline grid on the first paragraph.

What the [Basic Paragraph] Paragraph Style has set is nothing, everything is an override. Some of which I cannot find out how to set as overrides.

This document started as an InDesign idml file. hmm. would that have something to do with this malfunction?

Most likely. I have lost count of the number of weird things IDML paragraph/character styles do when imported/opened in Publisher.

Okay, but even when starting a new document, I could get weird results. So it makes sense that some information gets lost in translation, but as you can see in this screenshot it really doesn't make sense. Italic paragraph should start on the first baseline grid, not one or two lines above or below it. This would be just a feature I would avoid when explaining/teaching Publisher. If Affinity wants to convince designers that they can leave Adobe InDesign, I sure hope that they improve Publisher.

Thanks for the file provided! I believe this is happening in part due to the Relative To : Top Inset setting within the Text Frame Studio.

I can see this text has a 1mm Top Inset applied, and removing this inset or changing the Relative To option to Top Of Frame returns these text frames to the expected behaviour-

I'm getting this logged separately with our devs now :)
