Affinity Rat Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 If I dont use default Affinity Photo directory, how does the autosave feature work? Quote
Affinity Rat Posted March 7, 2022 Author Posted March 7, 2022 Does the autosave really write to disk or delta changes to sandbox? which will be lost if closed? Quote
Affinity Rat Posted March 7, 2022 Author Posted March 7, 2022 According to help, it must save the current document somewhere, since the feature is implemented in event of power failure. I suspect it uses history to reconstruct the file from saving delta changes. Quote
DM1 Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 Autosave only saves to sandbox. Always use 'Save', as this creates an external file that can be accessed and moved. If you prefer to use your own folder in preference to the default folder location, the only current option is to either manually move the file or use Save a Copy, then open the 'copy' and work on that. Using Save a Copy reveals a Save option in the Workscreen Document menu. Saves to this copy will update in your preferred folder. Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). Affinity Rat Posted March 8, 2022 Author Posted March 8, 2022 My misconception was the sandbox was represented by the files listed in the Ipad settings storage for Ipad, but the sandbox apparently can have tentacles, like beach grass and spread all over as “Save as” extends the sandbox to include new locations outside the Affinity Photo folder. Are you saying: once user saves a file using the “Save as option” in the app, the autosave will save changes in sandbox AND clicking menu item “Save” with the file open in the app will save those changes in the sandbox to file in my chosen directory. Affinity Rat Posted March 8, 2022 Author Posted March 8, 2022 Enough moaning, just have to constantly check if its updating the file I intend, and back it up. Quote
