I wonder if someone can suggest how I can prevent this from happening in Affinity Publisher? I have space between paragraphs set at 0.4 but removing that from the previous paragraph doesn't change it. I is happening on a lot of the pages. Is there something I'm doing wrong, as I'd like the left and right pages to be aligned. Newbie here. Many thanks.

Without having the document to experiment with it’s difficult to say as there are many possibilities.

However, here are some things to check:

  1. Have you got any superfluous breaks between paragraphs? Use menu “Text → Show Special Characters” and see if there’s anything ‘odd’ between the paragraphs. (It looks like you already have “Show Special Characters” switched on but this might be useful for other people reading this.)
  2. Have you checked to see if there is an ‘empty/transparent’ image/shape/frame at the top of that page which has word wrap switched on?
  3. Have you checked the Baseline Grid setup, for both the page and the frame text? You might have a baseline grid set-up for the text frame on page 114 which has a different start position to the other frame texts.

One other thing to note is that it looks like your text is flowing from page 114 to page 116 (or maybe later) and that seems strange to me. Is this something that you want to happen?

If you can supply the actual document then we should be able to find the cause of the problem more easily but only if you are comfortable sharing it in public. You don’t need to do this is you don’t want to.

… or check the vertical alignment of those frames. Visually your example looks like this:

Many thanks for your suggestions. I've finally worked it out. It looks like I had the Vertical Position under Column Rules as centred vertically. Why some pages were ok and some weren't is a mystery. When I need more pages I used the Pages, Add Pages feature and it inserts the one Master that I have set with page numbers. Then I draw the text box and use the text flow option. I'm probably doing it all wrong.
@GarryP yes, I had a text box incorrectly flowing and have fixed that now. Thank you. My file would be way to big to share here. It's a 160 page book with images and more to come.

thank you.

It’s good to know that you’re back on track but, looking at your latest screenshot, it looks like another problem has come up as the baselines of the characters on page 114 do not line up with the baselines of the characters on page 115 – see attached screenshot.
It might be best to fix that before you carry on as it could cause problems later on.
Check your Baseline Grid settings for the document and the Frame Text layer(s).

Ah, thank you so much for this. I hadn't seen that but now I do and it's on every page. I've found a tutorial on how to fix this - hope! Will sleep on it then try it out tomorrow. So much appreciated @GarryP

Just in case: Your left frame has an inset set while the right doesn't, which results in different 1st line positions.

@thomaso You are right. I can see it on a lot of my pages. I have no idea what I'm doing so I did not know this was happening. So many little things to learn in this program so I thank you very much for pointing that out. It works. Now to check every page. Thank you!
