Currently you can’t directly lock an aspect ratio during selection.

but there are other methods or workarounds to achieve the same end result.

The main question is: for what purpose do you need the selection?

  • If you want to crop a document : see Pšenda‘s reply.
  • in Publisher, placing an image: use an image frame, there you can define an aspect ratio
  • In Photo, Designer cut off unwanted parts of layers: create a rectangular shape, set aspect ratio in transform panel, lock it, resize as needed, and nest shape as mask to parent layer.

This difference might be surprising for those switching from Photoshop. After you get used to it, you will notice the elegance and advantages of this non-destructive approach.

Thank you,NotMyFault!

I was searching way ,you wrote in 2nd and 3rd approach.

It was first time to use imaging flame, then i watched video https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/tutorials/publisher/desktop/video/337286114/ ,
,now maybe i can use imaging flame.

With your 3rd approach,using mask, is non-destructive.
I will use 3rd approach, till I get used to it.

I was very surprised at not only your approach but your quick response.

I thank you very much,Pšenda,NotMyFault.
