Affinity Publisher, File appears to be corrupted.

Recommended Posts

Hi Affinity team,

I was working on the file in question on a laptop from an external hard drive, and then put it aside. Laptop fell asleep etc, I attempted to open file and came up against the File appears to be corrupted error. Seems that it's a known issue, I'm hoping the fix is known as well, below are the requested details + the file attached.

1. Which Operating System are you using?

Microsoft Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview 10.0.22518 Build 22518

2. Which version of Affinity did the file last get saved in?

Affinity Publisher 1.10.4.1198

3. What drive type was the file last saved to (select more than one if needed)?

external hard drive exFAT formatted

4. Any other information you think would help us try to find the problem?

We suggest that you check to see if you have any backups of the document available in case we’re unable to recover the file. The investigation process can take some time, but we’ll be back in contact with our findings.

About backups: where are backups saved to? I couldn't any such folders with backups, or would you be referring to manual backups that I would have needed to create?

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Best

I've taken a look at the file and unfortunately it can't be recovered as it does have missing data. If the message popped up on opening the issue may of occured when last saving/writing back to the file. If it was stored on an exFAT formatted drive there may be a small possibility that could of been the cause. As exFAT has a lack of logging, which means data corruption is more likely to occur, such as file loss due to a sudden power outage.
