cleay Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Hi, Starting a few weeks ago, I've been having frequent full systems crashes — cursor becomes unresponsive, fan goes into overdrive, system restart. A full system freeze/crash like this is exceedingly rare on macOS — never had more than a handful in the 20yrs preceding this. I'd not been able to track it down definitively before today, but it is AD causing the crash. I've replicated it half a dozen times today — with and without hardware acceleration turned on. I have no idea what's going wrong, but for now I cannot use AD for more than a few minutes before a system crash. Any ideas? Quote
Dan C Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Hi @cleay, Sorry to hear you're having trouble! I'd like to request a copy of the logs from your console, as these should hopefully contain more information as to the cause of the system crash. Please open the Console app (usually within Applications > Utilities ) and select 'Crash Reports', then attach any Affinity Designer reports from here. Now, please check the other categories (likely Log Reports / Diagnostics Reports) for a crash report regarding the system, rather than the Affinity app specifically. Please attach any crash reports here that you feel have relevant information for our team to investigate further. Many thanks in advance Quote
cleay Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 Thanks for the reply Dan — there are no AD Crash Reports in console app (only 2: Plex from a week ago, and Illustrator from 2020). And no records in diagnostics or logs from the time of the 2 crashes this morning. Odd thing is that the report crash popup that usually appears after restart is absent — it's like the system has no idea it's crashed... Quote

That's certainly strange - I was expecting to see a 'kernel panic' log or similar. We've previously seen issues with Asset packs in Designer using much more RAM then they should, and that can cause system instability, therefore I'd like to try backing up your data and restoring Affinity to default settings, to see if this resolves things. Can you please confirm for me, did you purchase the app from the Mac App Store or the Affinity Store? Quote
