Hello,

I have my default measurment set to inches.  I create a document, set the dimensions, change units from cm to inches(why set to cm?) and then start my project.

At some stage through my project, the document will change the measurement unit to pixels.  I have not changed it myself.  I will only notice this when I go to place a new item or change the dimensions of an existing item.  Can anyone advise why this may be happening and what I can do to stop it happening in the future.

Many thanks.

Why don't create your document from document presets with inches? Or why don't create your own Presets?

Clicking on Ruler bar corner? See part "To change document units:

Hi @Steven Merritt,
Welcome to the Affinity forums!

The units in the app presets for new documents vary between the different presets and appear to be a decision of an average use (e.g. European DIN formats in mm, American print standard formats & classical photo formats in inch, Web in pixel, etc.) You can adjust a preset's unit before using the "Create" button for a new document from a preset + save custom presets with your preferred settings, as Pšenda already mentioned.

There is no default, application-wide unit setting, the unit always gets set with each document separately and may get changed at any time.

Exceptions:
• If you open a PDF it will open with the unit Points as the standard unit of the PDF file format.
• In the app Preferences > User Interface you have the option to set the units for fonts and stroke width (point or your current document unit).

I did not experience this yet. Can you tell in what specific situations this seems to happen, what action you did before?

Hello, thanks for your replies.

I have the lines and text set to points as I find this is the best option.  I have Nudge distance set to Inches.  When I create a document I set the document units to inches and the rulers and transform boxes display inches.  There does not seem to be a set time when it changes to points.  I only notice when I go to change a measurement or zoom in but it does not seem to be a fixed time.  I have got some templates saved and these are set in inches but the same thing happens to these as well.

I have to do this when the measurements randomly change.

I may uninstall, delete all temporary files and then reinstall and then hopefully it will have sorted itself out.  I was hoping it was a known issue.

Many thanks

Steve
