Please see attachment.

I attempted to add 2 curves together, same layer, curves within same group.

Upon clicking "Add", the app froze in Add (see Progress Bar)  and had to be Force-Quit. Normal Quit didn't work.

No report was generated.

I think there is a long standing issue with Add and straight line curves. You could try using the node tool and select the two curves and Join Curves. You'll get one Curve layer not a Curves layer though.

I tried Join Curves and that does indeed make one curve.
( I should have thought of that earlier, Oh well, live & learn eh ?)

Still don't understand why the app should totally freeze, though.

Here with my test there was just nothing happening, no freeze. May be there is something about the curves you have as opposed to the ones I drew here.
