I have been using Adobe PS, IL, ID, etc. for decades, now I've just purchased Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher as a replacement.

I'm having problems with crashing. When I open a PSD file created in PS6 it almost always crashes Photo. It can also crash Designer when attempting to place a PSD. Why is this happening?

FWIW, while I'm on a different machine (Intel, etc.), I just tried opening several large PS files in v1.10.0 and had no issues. You might need to upload a sample file or two for people to check to see if it's file related.

I may have discovered the problem so I'll post it here for others who may experience something similar.

We have all of our work file on a Synology NAS drive. The crashing only occurs (so far) when I open a PSD file stored on the NAS. If I copy the file from the NAS to my desktop, for instance, I can open the file with no problem. Also, if I save the now opened PSD file as a native Affinity file on the NAS I can open it without crashing. There just seems to be something about the PSD file on the NAS that Affinity doesn't like.

Anyway, thanks for your response. I hope my diagnosis helps others.
