  1. I was able to open the new file and immediately save it. So far it's working fine. It almost seems that immediately pressing CMD-S (even before it's visible) stops the file from crashing Publisher. There must be a problem with the file loading process that, when interrupted, stops the crashing. Further investigation is warranted. I hope this helps the developers. Again, this is only happening in Publisher, not Photo or Designer.
  2. I probably should have tested the the new file on the NAS before posting my previous post. Yes, I am still having a problem with the new file crashing upon opening.
  3. I, too, had a problem with repeated crashing. My situation is perhaps a bit more complicated: I was working on an .afpub file last week on my Mac Mini M1 and everything was fine. We just purchased a Mac Mini Pro M2 and I migrated the software, users and files to the M2 this past weekend. The publication file, however, was stored on our NAS drive and therefore was not involved in the migration. This is the first Affinity file I have tried to open on the M2, and it continually crashed. I found this thread and decided to try duplicating the file. I copied the file from the NAS to the local drive and tried to reopen, it crashed. I tried again and immediately pressed CMD-S and was able to save as a new file. I now have that file open and I've had no problems - fingers-crossed. Interestingly I did not have to relink to any assets, just save the file as new. All seems well. As my last test I'm going to move the file back to the NAS drive to make sure it continues to have no problems. I'll report back if I encounter any additional problems. I don't know what could have caused the problem, but the recommendation to immediately save as a new file was the solution, though not a great one. Finally, I have checked other Affinity files stored on the NAS (photo and designer) and none are having problems. Oh yeah, I'm running Publisher, Photo and Designer 2.04 on a Mac Mini Pro M2 with Ventura 13.3.1.
  4. Thanks. You're absolutely right. When I apply a drop shadow to each picture element individually I don't have the problem. Thanks for helping me with this.
  5. DDC 20 book cover V8.afdesign DDC 20 book cover V8.pdf When I export to PDF I get some strange blue box that is not visible in the JPG or the native file. Can anyone find out what is causing this? Obviously I can't provide this to the printer. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. Jorn, Thank you for your detailed description of how to accomplish this. It's especially helpful for those circumstances where there are multiple color combinations - which I find myself facing all too often. It's too bad that the Color Replacement brush doesn't do what its name suggests. It certainly would be simpler. Still, in spite of the quirks of Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher, I'm very favorably impressed with their capabilities. Kudos to the development team!
  7. As the Affinity community continues to grow, it would seem to make sense to divide the support forums by specific application. This is already the case for platform, like iPad vs. Desktop, but it needs to be further segregated by application. Having all Affinity applications lumped into one forum makes finding relevant posts difficult.
  8. Isn't that what I want? I want to change the color of part of an image. Hue is the "color", saturation and lightness affect hue. It seems to me this tool isn't a hue (or color) replacement tool at all. Rather, it appears to be a color overlay that uses either a hue or color blend mode. Attached is a file I created with three different colored circles. The yellow circle is the topmost layer and has a 100% opacity with a color blend mode. The red circle is the middle layer with 100% opacity in normal blend mode. The bottom layer is a duplicate of the red layer with a Layer Effect "color overlay" using the yellow as the overlay color. This is identical to the result I'm getting in my first image. So really this color (hue) replacement tool is not really at all what it claims to be. It really should be called a Color Overlay Brush Tool. That would better describe what it is. Ultimately, I need to use the recolor tool to accomplish what I want. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a way to define the hue in RGB or Hex, so it's trial and error. Too bad.
  9. Hi All, I'm new to Affinity Photo, having used Photoshop for decades. I'm trying to replace a color in a photo but I'm getting strange results. As you can see from the attached photo, I have set the primary color as bright yellow. The red shirt image has a transparent background. I select the layer I want to change, choose the Color Replacement Brush Tool, and as I hover over the image the transparent areas show the primary color, but the shirt color does not change to yellow, it turns olive green. Here's what the Help file says to do: I've followed the directions but I only get this strange result. What am I doing wrong?
  10. Yes, this forum topic was most helpful to understanding why I couldn't apply a stroke to a Document. It's unfortunate that Publisher Help doesn't do a better job explaining this point that Documents are Containers and therefore can't have strokes applied. It would have saved me a lot of time with trial & error and searching the internet and this forum. Thanks for your replies.
  11. I struggled to understand why I could not stroke a placed PDF file. I searched Publisher help (which wasn't very helpful) and here's what it said: Not true. Based on that quote I believed I was doing something wrong. Then I came upon this forum thread. I wish the documentation was more accurate.
  12. I may have discovered the problem so I'll post it here for others who may experience something similar. We have all of our work file on a Synology NAS drive. The crashing only occurs (so far) when I open a PSD file stored on the NAS. If I copy the file from the NAS to my desktop, for instance, I can open the file with no problem. Also, if I save the now opened PSD file as a native Affinity file on the NAS I can open it without crashing. There just seems to be something about the PSD file on the NAS that Affinity doesn't like. Anyway, thanks for your response. I hope my diagnosis helps others.
  13. I have been using Adobe PS, IL, ID, etc. for decades, now I've just purchased Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher as a replacement. I'm having problems with crashing. When I open a PSD file created in PS6 it almost always crashes Photo. It can also crash Designer when attempting to place a PSD. Why is this happening? Photo 1.10.0 and Designer 1.10.0. Mac Mini M1 chip Big Sur 11.4
