Unable to open the file on iPad using Affinity Designer

Recommended Posts

Dear Affinity Designer users,

I can’t open a project. Suddenly I just can’t open it. I reinstalled affinity designer but it didn’t help. What to do to reopen the file?

I use Affinity Designer on iPad. Thanks for your help and time.

It’s possibly corrupted the file in the apps iOS sandbox. If so you cannot easily recover it.  Sometimes making a copy (3bar menu) and opening the copy is successful, but not often.
Did you actually save the file at any stage? If you did you will have a copy in the default Designer folder.
If not they are a few 3rd party desktop apps that can access iOS apps sandbox which may enable you to access the corrupted file.
Won’t help now but in future always use the Save feature to generate a .afdesign file otherwise you will only ever have a sandbox version that cannot be copied/moved or backed up (and can become innacessible.

Hi @Ewuszka,

Sorry to see you've encountered this problem.  @DM1 Has covered everything, we would normally suggest for this issue.  Unless the file has been saved outside of Affinity, then it will be stuck in the apps Sandbox, which makes it not straightforward to recover.  There is a method here which may work but it does require access to Mac computer.

As for the file, can you remember if you had any embedded file in it or was it all brush/Pen tool work?
