thedemiurgebard
It is these brushes in particular. https://gumroad.com/l/yFKMw There doesn't appear to be anything different about them from normal photoshop brushes that can work just fine with Affinity. Normally when I install anything of substance it might cause Affinity to freeze for a second before starting to work again. When I go to install these it just freezes permanently. I've given it up to four hours to start working again, but it always results in crashing instead. And I do say Affinity because I have tried installing the brushes on all three platforms with the same results. I have tried drag and dropping them in to install as well as the usual import brushes option. The brush pack is only 53 mb. How can I install these brushes without causing a crash? Or if it can't be done, why? I'd like to know so I don't purchase unusable brushes in the future.

Dan C
Hi @thedemiurgebard, Welcome to the forums Firstly although somewhat unrelated I have to say I love the work you've shared - the colours in the Sunset clouds images are a personal favourite of mine! In regards to the issue you're having with Affinity, I'm certainly sorry to hear this. We currently don't support all the same features of .abr brushes, so we're aware that not all kits will import correctly, however they absolutely shouldn't freeze the app on import. In order for us to test this I'd like to request a copy of the .abr brushes you've linked to - I understand there are licensing issues here, so I will provide a private upload link below for you to provide these directly to us. Once we've tested the brushes we'll be sure to remove them from this upload so that you do not need to worry about re-distribution of these paid-for brushes: https://www.dropbox.com/request/s05kb97Hi2G6xKGg0VAM Once uploaded to the above link, please reply here to let me know. Many thanks in advance!

Dan C
No problem at all, thanks for providing this file I have loaded these brushes in PS to check for known unsupported properties - however I can't see anything obvious that would stop the brushes from loading in Affinity. When importing the brushes into Affinity I also find the app enters a 'not-responding' state that it does not recover from, therefore I'm logging this as a bug with our developers as it will require further investigation to be repaired in a future update. In the meantime I have exported each sub-category from PS into a separate .abr files and then imported these into Affinity to see which cause the app to freeze. I found that all but 2 categories would export, the FX category causes the app to crash and close, and the Long Clouds category causes the app to enter the 'Not responding' state which it never recovers from - therefore I'll be including this information with the development log. So that you can use these brushes in Affinity, I will 'Share' a Dropbox folder to your email address associated with your forum account, containing the split .abr files that import correctly, so that you can install these in your Affinity app without issue. I hope this helps!
