You will get text that looks like this (where the rest of the text is now messed-up): The overall tracking is not the problem. The kerning between a limited number of character pairs is the problem. Which can be adjusted with manual kerning on just those pairs. Messing with the overall tracking to fix the fl pair will break more than it fixes. As the image above clearly demonstrates.
