I'd like to have a possibility to export an afpub-Project into idml-Files or another exchange format, so users of other software could continue to work on a project.

Reason why:
I use affinity publisher privately to create flyers and a member's magazine for a fencing club. But maybe one day someone else in the club is going to do this work, who might have got another publisher software. So presently this person would not be able to open any of my projects and even I am not able to save them into any exchange data format to open and edit it without Affinity.

I am not sure if Adobe ever intended IDML to be an exchange format to other DTP applications. It is decades ago since I last used QXpress, so is QXP saving as IDML or to any other exchange format?

@Steffen-Michael Eigner

Isn't that what the .pdf export facility is for?

Win 11 Pro, intel i7 14700, NVidia GTX 4060, 32G RAM, intel UHD 770.

Long-time user of Serif products, chiefly PagePlus and PhotoPlus, but also WebPlus, CraftArtistProfessional and DrawPlus.  Delighted to be using Affinity Designer, Photo, and now Publisher, version 1 and now version 2.

iPad Pro (12.9") (iOS 18.2) running Affinity Photo and Designer version 1 and all three version 2 apps.

In the sense of edibility? No. I think no company would make a path for an easy conversion to a competiting product. An import of a foreign format is something else. There is never going to be a feature parity between all the DTP applications, so you have to do some extra work when there is an exchange format.

PS: I followed your advice and wrote another comment. 😂
